Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Bernhard II facing right, wearing armor with elaborate shoulder decoration and a cravat, his hair falling in loose curls to the shoulder in the fashion of the period. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features and costume. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the Latin legend surrounding the portrait along the periphery.

Reverse description Elaborately quartered coat of arms of the Duchy of Saxe-Jena, surmounted by a crown and supported on either side by flourishing palm and laurel sprays forming a decorative wreath. The complex shield incorporates multiple heraldic quarterings including the Saxon barry with rautenkranz, and various subsidiary arms. The date 1673 is divided across the field flanking the crown, with the mintmaster's initials appearing in the lower portion of the design. The Latin legend encircles the entire composition along the outer border.
