| Obverse description | Draped bust of Empress Maria Theresa facing right, her hair elaborately dressed and falling in loose curls over her shoulders. The legend MARIA·THERESIA IMPERATRIX·GER. arcs around the periphery, with the dates 1717 and 1780 flanking the portrait in the field, denoting her birth and death years. The date 1957, indicating the year of issue, appears in the exergue below the bust. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical style with fine detail, characteristic of mid-twentieth century medallic art. |
