Additional information

This is a restrike — or more precisely, a fantasy piece — produced in West Germany during the early 1960s for the bullion and collector medal trade. The "Aureus Magnus" series was never an official coinage of any sovereign authority; these pieces were struck by private West German minting operations capitalizing on collector demand for gold items at a time when direct gold coin ownership was tightly restricted in many Western countries. The series took historical and ancient figures as its nominal subjects while bearing no relationship to any actual ancient monetary issue.

Cleopatra VII never appeared on a gold coin of this fabric or module during her reign.
