Obverse description Draped bust of Ludwig van Beethoven facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and period costume. The legend LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by small star ornaments. The dates 1770 and 1970, marking the bicentennial of the composer's birth, are positioned at the lower left and lower right of the field respectively, separated by the bust. The portrait is executed in a classical medallic style befitting a commemorative issue.
