| Obverse description | Standing allegorical female figure of Peace (Pax) facing slightly left, draped in classical robes, holding a cornucopia overflowing with fruit and flowers in her left arm while raising her right hand toward a radiant sunburst emanating from a cartouche inscribed 'AO' at the top of the field. A sailing vessel appears in the left middle ground against a landscape, with bales of goods stacked in the right middle ground, symbolising Hamburg's flourishing maritime trade. A circular German-language legend surrounds the composition, reading in part 'DURCH ARBEIT ICH IM FRIEDEN DOCH FOLGET MIR UBERFLUSS ALLEIN' and 'VON REICHEM NUTZ MICH MEHR HERR'. The overall style is high Baroque, finely engraved with dense detail throughout the field. |
