| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of Prince George of Greece, facing right, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair and a short moustache. The circular Greek legend surrounding the portrait reads, from lower left upward and continuing around the rim: ΠΡΙΓΚΗΨ ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ ΥΠΑΤΟΣ ΑΡΜΟΣΤΗΣ ΕΝ ΚΡΗΤΗ, identifying him as High Commissioner of Crete. The date 1901 appears in the lower field flanked by dots, with the engraver's signature A. ΒΟΡΡΕΛ incused below the bust truncation. The entire design is bordered by a continuous beaded inner rim. |
