| 表面の説明 | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Liberia centrally, featuring a three-masted sailing ship at sea, a palm tree, and a rising sun, all enclosed within a shield surmounted by a dove in flight; a plow and a spade appear in the lower field. The circular legend reads 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' along the upper periphery, with the motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' arcing across the upper interior of the arms. The date '2000' is divided across the left and right fields flanking the shield, and the denomination '5 DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower rim. |

Liberia's Olympic commemorative program of the late 1990s and early 2000s was essentially a revenue operation — the country had no athletes competitive at Sydney 2000 and no meaningful connection to the Games being commemorated. These issues were licensed through third-party marketing firms and struck at private mints for the collector novelty trade, never intended for domestic circulation in a country then mid-collapse under Charles Taylor's government.
KM# 710 is one of dozens of near-identical sports-themed pieces from this Liberian series. Copper-nickel issues like this one were the low-end tier of a product line that also included silver and gold variants sold at significant premiums.
