| 正面描述 | Central field features the Singapore state emblem, comprising a crescent moon and five stars within a shield, flanked by a lion and a tiger as supporters, with a wave base below. The year of issue '1996' appears beneath the emblem. | 背面描述 | Central field displays the stylised official logo of the World Trade Organization, depicting an abstract lion's head above a series of curved horizontal lines suggestive of a globe, rendered in high relief. The denomination '$5' appears to the right of the WTO motif within the field. To the left, in two lines, the conference dates '9-13 December 1996' are inscribed. The peripheral legend reads 'WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION' along the upper arc and 'FIRST MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE' along the lower arc, separated by raised borders. |

Singapore hosted the inaugural WTO Ministerial Conference in December 1996 — the first such gathering since the organisation replaced GATT in January 1995. The choice of Singapore reflected its standing as a trade-dependent economy whose entire modern development rested on open markets, making it an unusually apt venue rather than a diplomatic compromise.
KM#149a is the silver version; a copper-nickel counterpart (KM#149) was issued for general circulation alongside it.
