The USS Louisville (SSN-724) is a Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine commissioned in 1986. During Operation Desert Storm in January 1991, she became the first submarine to fire Tomahawk cruise missiles in combat — launching them from the Red Sea against Iraqi targets on the opening night of the air campaign.
The Marshall Islands issued commemorative coinage extensively through the 1990s under licensing arrangements, with pieces struck by outside mints for collector sale rather than circulation.
