Obverse description The national arms of the Republic of the Marshall Islands occupies the central field, depicting a frigatebird with outstretched wings above a traditional outrigger canoe, flanked by palm trees to the left and a sailing vessel to the right, with a radiant sun rising above the composition. The word SEAL appears in a cartouche at the base of the arms. The outer border is formed by a decorative chain link motif. The legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcs along the upper periphery, while the Marshallese national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN curves along the lower border. The denomination $5 appears to the left and the date 1994 to the right, both within the chain border.
