Liberia's late-1990s and early-2000s collector series produced dozens of foreign-portrait dollars in copper-nickel, almost none of which were intended for domestic circulation. These pieces were marketed almost exclusively to the international novelty and souvenir trade, with distribution handled through overseas dealers rather than the Central Bank of Liberia's ordinary channels. KM#840 sits in a catalog category crowded with similar issues from the same period.
