The Black Madonna of Częstochowa, housed at the Jasna Góra monastery in southern Poland, has been a focal point of Polish Catholic identity since at least the 14th century. The icon's two facial scars are traditionally attributed to a Hussite raid in 1430, though the cuts may have been inflicted later and then deliberately preserved as part of the relic's devotional history.
Liberia's involvement is purely commercial — the republic issued hundreds of foreign-themed collector pieces in the 2000s under licensing arrangements that had nothing to do with national monetary need. Silver-plated copper rather than solid silver keeps production costs low on issues like this one.
