正面描述 The shield-shaped coat of arms of the Republic of Palau is centrally displayed, depicting a traditional scene with a figure holding a trident surrounded by marine imagery and the motto RAINBOW'S END inscribed on a scroll at the base. The arms are enclosed by an ornate border. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by decorative stars. The denomination 5$ appears in the lower field beneath the coat of arms.

背面描述 A detailed, full-color depiction of Saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York City occupies the central field, rendered with careful architectural precision showing the Gothic Revival facade, twin spired towers, pointed arched windows, and buttressed nave. The image captures the cathedral's stonework in naturalistic color against a plain background. The legend ST PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL arcs along the upper periphery in raised lettering. A small circular globe device inscribed WONDERS OF THE WORLD appears to the upper right within the design.

附加信息

Palau has issued collector silver under its own authority since 1992, exploiting a provision of its Compact of Free Association with the United States that permits the republic to mint legal tender without running an independent central bank. The St. Patrick's Cathedral piece belongs to a long-running series of architectural and religious commemoratives produced almost entirely for the foreign collector market — Palau's domestic economy runs on the U.S. dollar, and none of these coins ever circulate.

The cathedral depicted was completed in 1878 after 21 years of construction, financed largely through pew rentals and donations from New York's Irish immigrant community.
