Niue has issued commemorative silver under its own authority since the 1990s, leveraging a currency agreement with New Zealand that permits the island — population under 2,000 — to produce legal tender coins with no expectation of circulation. This piece is the seventh in a twelve-part series devoted to Raphael's Sistine Madonna, completed around 1512 for the church of San Sisto in Piacenza and now held in Dresden's Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister since its purchase by Augustus III of Saxony in 1754.
