Aanvullende informatie

The Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma gained federal recognition in 2000 after decades of legal separation from the Absentee Shawnee and Eastern Shawnee. This coin followed almost immediately — part of a broader pattern among newly or re-recognized tribes in the early 2000s using numismatic programs to assert governmental standing and generate revenue. The issuing authority is real; the legal basis for the coinage, less so, as no tribal nation holds authority under U.S. law to issue coins denominated in dollars for general circulation.

KM#2 suggests at least one prior issue in the series. Mintage figures for these tribal gold pieces were rarely published with any transparency.
