备注

Magasins A. Setlakwe Ltée was a Lebanese-Canadian merchant operation based in Thetford Mines, Quebec — one of several immigrant-run general stores in the region that issued scrip to bind local workers to their own retail trade. These notes functioned as a private credit system, typically redeemable only at the issuing store, circulating among miners and their families in the asbestos belt where cash was often scarce and company-town dynamics kept wages tied to local commerce.

Quebec merchant scrip of this type was never formally regulated, and issuers varied wildly in how faithfully they honored redemption. The Setlakwe notes are among the better-documented examples of Lebanese diaspora merchant scrip in Canada.
