| Obverse description | The obverse displays the coat of arms of Kiribati (Christmas Island) centrally positioned in the field, depicting a shield bearing a frigatebird in flight above a rising sun over ocean waves. A scroll below the shield bears the national motto in Gilbertese: TE MAURI TE RAOI AO TE TABOMOA. The legend CHRISTMAS ISLAND arcs along the upper rim, while KIRIBATI 2015 is inscribed along the lower rim, all rendered in a polished proof finish. |

| Additional information |
Kiribati has no functional numismatic tradition of its own — the island nation uses Australian dollars in daily commerce and has issued collector coins almost exclusively through foreign minting contractors targeting the novelty market. This piece is a product of that arrangement, with the licensing of a Rankin/Bass character whose copyright history is considerably more tangled than the coin's provenance.
