Obverse description Dark green and black intaglio-printed note with an ornate guilloche border and corner rosettes. The central vignette presents a large ocean steamship at sea within an arched frame; to the left, a manuscript date of January 2nd, 1920, and the place of issue Basseterre, St. Kitts appear alongside red serial numbers. The denomination equivalence of £1-0-10 is stated in the upper corners, the bank title runs across the top, and two manuscript signatures below are captioned General Manager and President respectively.

Reverse description Printed in solid green, the reverse centres on a finely engraved Royal Arms vignette with lion and unicorn supporters, surmounted by a crown and the motto ribbon DIEU ET MON DROIT. The denomination FIVE ST. KITTS DOLLARS THE EQUIVALENT OF £1-0-10 is stated on either side of the arms, and the bank title THE ROYAL BANK OF CANADA appears in a decorative cartouche at the foot, all within a multi-rule border with ornamental corner pieces.
