Liberia's early 1990s commemorative program was essentially a commercial licensing operation — the government authorized a steady stream of foreign-designed issues aimed squarely at the collector market, with little connection to Liberian monetary circulation. This Patrese piece appeared at the peak of his Formula One career: his 1992 season with Williams-Renault produced six race wins and a runner-up championship finish behind teammate Nigel Mansfield — the closest he ever came to the title he never won.
