背面描述 The reverse features a dynamic sculptural depiction of two Pterodactylus pterosaurs in flight, rendered in high relief against a polished field divided by a circular arc. A large individual dominates the foreground with wings fully extended, while a smaller specimen is shown airborne in the upper middle ground. The denomination $5 appears prominently in the upper left field. The legend PTERODACTYLUS is inscribed along the lower periphery in bold Latin capitals, and the inscription 1 oz 999 Silver appears vertically along the right inner border.

附加信息

Sierra Leone has issued commemorative wildlife series since the early 2000s, contracting production almost entirely through the Pobjoy Mint in Surrey and later through various European private minters. These issues are not produced for domestic circulation and have no meaningful monetary role within Sierra Leone itself — the face value is nominal, the real market is the international collector trade in themed bullion.

Pterodactylus, the namesake genus, was first formally described by Cosimo Collini in 1784 from a Solnhofen limestone specimen — making it the earliest pterosaur identified by science.
