Obverse description The coat of arms of Nauru is depicted centrally in high relief, featuring the national shield supported by two frigate bird feathers, surmounted by a twelve-pointed star and a scroll inscribed NAOERO. The national motto GOD'S WILL FIRST appears on a ribbon below the shield. The curved legend REPUBLIK OF NAURU arcs across the upper field, while the weight 500g, denomination 5$, date 2022, and fineness Ag 999 are inscribed in the lower field. The scalloped border of the coin is decorated with ornamental floral and scroll motifs, and two stylized pinnacle motifs flank the arms in the mid-field.

Reverse description A magnificently detailed peacock is depicted in full frontal display at the center of the field, its body rendered in antique silver relief with finely engraved scale and feather textures. The fully fanned tail fills the entire coin surface, with individual feathers colored in deep blue and green enamel, each ocellus set with an embedded crystal — amber-toned crystals alternating with emerald-green crystals across the upper arc of the tail. Additional blue-enameled feathers with green crystal inlays extend to the lower field, framing an elaborate scrollwork and acanthus-leaf ornamental design at the base. The scalloped coin border echoes the radiating fan of the tail, enhancing the overall symmetrical, art-nouveau-inspired composition. No legends or inscriptions appear on the reverse.

Additional information

Nauru's bullion and novelty program has leaned heavily on exotic wildlife themes since the early 2000s, a revenue strategy for a nation whose phosphate deposits — once the per-capita wealth engine of the Pacific — are largely exhausted. The peacock issue sits in a crowded market of large-format silver novelties, distinguished here by the crystal inlay work rather than anything specific to the bird's relationship with Nauru, which has none.

KM#142 is a privately contracted piece, almost certainly produced by B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt or a comparable European novelty mint under license rather than struck on the island itself.
