Additional information

The Organisation of African Unity summit held in Monrovia in July 1979 was a significant diplomatic moment for Liberia under President William Tolbert — one of the few times the country hosted the continent's premier political body. Tolbert was assassinated in a military coup less than a year later, in April 1980, making this issue an inadvertent memorial to the final months of his government.
