| Obverse description | The Samoan coat of arms occupies the central field of this irregularly shaped sculptural flan, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished background. The shield depicts a coconut palm, the Southern Cross constellation of five stars, and ocean waves, all encircled by olive branches and a globe, surmounted by a Christian cross above the legend SAMOA. A ribbon scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto FA'AVAE I LE ATUA SAMOA. In the lower field, the inscriptions 1 oz Ag 999, the date 2022, and the denomination 5 DOLLARS are arranged in a curved arc. The ornate scalloped border of the coin is decorated with scrollwork and filigree motifs. |
