| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Nauru occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield supported by two frigate birds with wings displayed, surmounted by a twelve-pointed star above a flowering tommie plant, and a scroll below bearing the national motto. The legend BANK OF NAURU arcs along the upper periphery, with the Nauruan name NAOERO inscribed on the crest banner. Two pellet stops flank the motto scroll at the lower field, and the date 2010 appears in the exergue. |

Nauru has issued commemorative gold pieces under its own banking authority since the 1990s, though the island's financial institutions gained international notoriety in the early 2000s when the OECD listed it as a non-cooperative tax haven and the U.S. Treasury flagged it for money laundering concerns. Mother Teresa was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003, seven years before this piece was struck.
