Flanking the central figure are two decorative chevron motifs, characteristic of the official graphic identity of the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. One of 28 silver coins issued across four series to fund the 1976 Montréal Games, this piece belongs to a program that was, financially, a disaster. The organizing committee's debt from those Games — driven by cost overruns on the Olympic Stadium — wasn't fully retired by the city of Montréal until 2006, thirty years after the closing ceremony.
