| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse serves as the primary design face of this pattern piece, featuring at centre a stylized figure of a marathon runner in mid-stride, rendered in raised relief. Flanking the central figure are two decorative chevron motifs, characteristic of the official graphic identity of the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. In the upper left field, the legend MONTRÉAL / 1976 appears in two lines, while to the upper right the bilingual inscription OLYMPIADE / XXI / OLYMPIAD is displayed in three lines. The official Olympic rings logo surmounts the text in the upper field. The denomination 5 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower rim. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
One of 28 silver coins issued across four series to fund the 1976 Montréal Games, this piece belongs to a program that was, financially, a disaster. The organizing committee's debt from those Games — driven by cost overruns on the Olympic Stadium — wasn't fully retired by the city of Montréal until 2006, thirty years after the closing ceremony.
