One of 28 silver coins issued across seven series for the 1976 Montréal Games, this piece was part of the largest Olympic commemorative coin program ever undertaken to that point. Canada financed a significant portion of the Games' infrastructure through coin sales — a strategy that ultimately fell well short of covering the $1.5 billion in cost overruns that left Québec paying off Olympic debt until 2006.
