正面描述 The Arms of Singapore centered in the field, comprising a lion and tiger supporting a shield, with a crescent and five stars above, and a wave motif below. The date 1989 appears beneath the emblem. The country name surrounds the design in four official languages: 'SINGAPORE' in Latin script, 'SINGAPURA' in Malay, the Tamil legend 'சிங்கப்பூர்', and the Chinese characters '新加坡', arranged around the periphery.

附加信息

Issued to commemorate the opening of Singapore's MRT network, which had begun phased operations in 1987 after years of fierce political debate over whether the city-state could justify the infrastructure cost. The decision to proceed came directly from Lee Kuan Yew's cabinet, overriding early feasibility studies that had favored an all-bus system.

The Monetary Authority struck this as a circulation commemorative — legal tender at face value, though few spent one on a fare.
