| 裏面の説明 | A full-color portrait of Martin Van Buren, eighth President of the United States, occupies the central field, rendered in a painterly photographic style after a period likeness. He is depicted in a three-quarter bust facing slightly left, wearing a dark coat with a white cravat. The legend MARTIN VAN BUREN arcs in raised letters around the upper periphery, flanked by a five-pointed star on each side, within a beaded inner border. The inscription 8th U.S. PRESIDENT (1837-1841) curves along the lower border in italic lettering. |

Liberia has issued commemorative five-dollar pieces featuring American presidents since the 1990s, contracting production to private mints — primarily the Pobjoy Mint and various German houses — with no meaningful connection to Liberian monetary circulation. These pieces were struck explicitly for the collector market and never served as working currency in Liberia or anywhere else.
Van Buren remains one of the least commemorated presidents in American numismatics, which makes the Liberian series one of the few places his portrait appears on a struck piece at all.
