| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Liberia is depicted centrally, featuring a shield with a sailing ship, rising sun, and a dove in flight above a plough and spade, framed by a decorative cartouche. The motto legend 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' arcs around the upper portion of the shield within the design. The date '2008' is split across the lower field on either side of the arms, with '20' to the left and '08' to the right. The upper legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the coin's periphery, while the denomination '5 DOLLARS' appears prominently in the lower exergue.
