| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a shield bearing a sailing ship at sea beneath a rising sun, flanked by crossed palm branches, with a dove in flight above, and the national motto 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' inscribed on a scroll across the upper portion of the shield. The legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the upper rim, while the denomination '5 DOLLARS' appears in the lower field. The date '1999' is divided on either side of the coat of arms. The design is rendered in high-relief proof finish with a finely reeded border. |
