| Beschrijving voorzijde | The national seal of the Republic of the Marshall Islands occupies the central field, depicting a frigate bird with outstretched wings above a traditional Marshallese outrigger canoe on the ocean, with a radiant sun above, palm trees to the left, and a fish to the upper left. A decorative chain-link border encircles the design. The legend REPUBLIC OF THE MARSHALL ISLANDS arcs along the upper periphery, with the denomination $5 and date 1995 flanking the seal, and the national motto JEPILPILIN KE EJUKAAN inscribed along the lower periphery. The word SEAL appears on a ribbon within the design. |

The Marshall Islands began issuing commemorative coinage in the late 1980s under authority granted by its Compact of Free Association with the United States, producing hundreds of collector-targeted issues through the 1990s. This Monroe piece appeared forty years after her death — close enough to an anniversary to justify the print run, loose enough that it tells you something about the issuer's priorities.
