| Reverse description | A finely engraved right-facing portrait bust of Marilyn Monroe (1926–1962), the celebrated American actress and cultural icon, occupies the central field. She is depicted with her characteristic short wavy hair, drop earrings, and a pearl necklace elegantly rendered in relief. The legend MARILYN MONROE arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 1995 appears at the lower left and the denomination 5 DOLLARS at the lower right. The initials DE and R of the designer and engraver appear in small characters at the bottom of the field. |

| Additional information |
The Marshall Islands began issuing commemorative coinage in the late 1980s under authority granted by its Compact of Free Association with the United States, producing hundreds of collector-targeted issues through the 1990s. This Monroe piece appeared forty years after her death — close enough to an anniversary to justify the print run, loose enough that it tells you something about the issuer's priorities.
