Hutt River Province declared independence from Western Australia in 1970 after a wheat quota dispute threatened Leonard Casley's farm with financial ruin. Casley proclaimed himself Prince Leonard I and spent the following decades issuing coins, stamps, and passports with varying degrees of international acknowledgment — essentially none. This 1991 piece belongs to a military-themed series that has no connection to any actual armed force; Hutt River's "army" existed largely on paper.
