Hutt River Province — formally the Principality of Hutt River — was a self-declared micronation in Western Australia, established in 1970 when wheat farmer Leonard Casley seceded from Australia over a cropping quota dispute. By the 1990s, the province had developed an extensive numismatic program, issuing coins largely aimed at collectors rather than any functional currency. The X# prefix in the World Coin catalog system designates it as a non-circulating fantasy issue from a non-recognized entity.
The principality ceased operations in 2020 when Casley, then in his late eighties, dissolved it citing tax debts.
