The Principality of Hutt River was a self-declared micronation established in 1970 by Leonard Casley, a Western Australian wheat farmer who seceded from Australia following a dispute with the state government over wheat production quotas. Australian authorities never recognized the claim, though Casley — styling himself Prince Leonard I — operated the territory as a tourist attraction for decades. The principality formally dissolved in 2020 when Leonard's son Graeme, facing financial pressures including unpaid land taxes, announced its closure and reabsorption into Australia.
These souvenir issues have no legal tender status anywhere and circulated purely as novelty pieces among visitors to the property near Northampton, Western Australia.
