Hutt River Province declared independence from Western Australia in 1970 after a wheat quota dispute pushed farmer Leonard Casley to invoke an obscure provision of the Magna Carta. By 1991, the micronation had been issuing its own coinage for nearly two decades, with Leonard — styled Prince Leonard I — presiding over a self-declared sovereign territory of roughly 75 square kilometers. The "Coming Home" issue commemorates his return from one of several international diplomatic tours he undertook seeking foreign recognition.
Hutt River never achieved UN recognition, but its coins circulated freely as souvenirs and were legal tender within the province's own declared jurisdiction.
