Hutt River Province, a self-declared micronation established by Leonard Casley in 1970 after a dispute with the Western Australian government over wheat quotas, issued a steady stream of numismatic pieces throughout the 1980s and 1990s — most marketed directly to collectors rather than circulated in any meaningful sense. This piece commemorates the USS Missouri, the Iowa-class battleship aboard which Japan's formal surrender was signed on 2 September 1945. By 1991, the Missouri had just completed service in Operation Desert Storm, firing the last large-caliber naval gunfire of that conflict before being decommissioned in March of that year.
