Hutt River Province — formally the Principality of Hutt River — was a self-declared micronation in Western Australia, established in 1970 when farmer Leonard Casley seceded from Australia in a dispute over wheat production quotas. By the early 1990s, it had developed an extensive numismatic program, producing coins accepted nowhere but collected by many. This piece commemorates the Battle of Leyte Gulf of October 1944, the largest naval engagement in history by number of ships involved, in which Allied forces decisively broke Japanese naval power in the Pacific.
