Hutt River Province — the self-declared micronation established by Leonard Casley in Western Australia in 1970 following a dispute with the state government over wheat production quotas — issued a long series of commemorative pieces throughout the 1980s and 1990s, largely targeting the novelty collector market. The "Battle for Omaha Beach" issue appeared in 1992, near the crest of that commemorative wave. These pieces circulated only in the most technical sense; Hutt River's monetary claims were never recognized by Australian authorities.
