Additional information

Hutt River Province declared independence from Australia in 1970 after a wheat quota dispute pushed farmer Leonard Casley to invoke an obscure constitutional provision — a move Canberra never formally accepted but, critically, never successfully reversed in court either. By the 1990s the micronation had issued its own passports, stamps, and an expanding coinage program aimed squarely at the collector market. Amos Rusie, the American baseball pitcher honored on this piece, had no discernible connection to Hutt River; his inclusion reflects the province's habit of licensing celebrity and sports subjects to broaden collector appeal.
