| 正面描述 | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, rendered in high relief against a matte frosted field, after the portrait by Susanna Blunt; the Queen is depicted wearing a pearl necklace and pearl drop earrings, her hair set in a characteristic coiffure. The engraver's initials 'SB' appear below the truncation of the bust. The circumscribed legend 'ELIZABETH II D•G•REGINA' arcs across the upper field, while the denomination '5 DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower field. The coin features a rose gold-plated serrated rim, creating a distinctive two-tone contrast with the silver inner field. |

The SML fractional set — Small, Medium, Large — was introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint as a collector-focused format grouping three coins of ascending size under a unified annual theme, with the 1 oz piece anchoring the set. The 2023 release came after the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022, making it one of the final issues to carry her effigy under the long-running Susanna Blunt obverse portrait adopted in 2003.
Canada officially transitioned to Charles III obverse portraits beginning in 2023 across most circulation and bullion coinage, but pre-planned collector sets already in production pipeline retained the Elizabeth II designation through that transition year.
