正面描述 Seated allegorical figure of Germania, adapted from the design of the German Imperial 100 Mark banknotes of 1906-1910, occupying the central field. The figure is shown enthroned, diademed and draped, holding a sceptre in her right hand, with an eagle-emblazoned shield resting at her left side. The legend 'REPUBLIC OF PALAU 1999' arcs around the upper periphery within a beaded border, while the denomination '5$' appears to the lower left of the figure.

附加信息

German Togo — the territory administered by Berlin from 1884 until British and French forces overran it in August 1914, just twelve days into the First World War — is an unusual subject for a Palauan commemorative. Togo's fall was the first German colonial defeat of that war, the campaign lasting barely a fortnight before the wireless station at Kamina was destroyed and the garrison surrendered.

Palau began issuing themed silver dollars and five-dollar pieces in the late 1990s under licensing arrangements common to small Pacific island states with no meaningful domestic coin demand. KM#24 belongs to that first wave.
