The RCM struck a small number of bronze pattern pieces in 1928 exploring denominations and formats that never entered circulation. This $5 pattern is among the more puzzling — Canada had no practical need for a $5 coin at that value in bronze, suggesting the exercise was more exploratory than seriously intended for adoption. No gold coinage was being planned for domestic circulation at the time, and the country would suspend gold coin production entirely within a few years as the Depression tightened monetary policy.
KM# Pn10 is known from a very small survivor population, most traceable to institutional collections.
