Barbados has issued collector-focused platinum and gold pieces under its flamingo series for decades, but the 3.11g format — a tenth-ounce equivalent — was deliberately chosen to keep entry price accessible against spot. The Central Bank has leaned heavily on the flamingo as a bullion identity marker since the 1980s, when the bird appeared on circulating coinage and the country began positioning itself within the Caribbean collector market.
