Part of a broader Pacific island lunar series produced for the collector market in the mid-2000s, this issue was struck to coincide with the Chinese Year of the Pig beginning February 18, 2007. Solomon Islands has no meaningful domestic tradition of lunar new year observance; the denomination and issuing authority are essentially licensing arrangements, with the coins destined almost entirely for the Asian and Western collector market rather than circulation in Honiara.
