Solomon Islands has issued commemorative silver dollars under its own authority since independence in 1978, but the proliferation of numismatic programs bearing its name since the 2000s reflects a broader trend of small Pacific nations licensing their issuing rights to European minting houses — primarily in Poland and Austria — who then market coins globally with minimal connection to the territory named on them. This piece almost certainly falls into that category.
Tyrannosaurus rex remains the most politically contentious dinosaur in paleontology: fossil rights disputes between the U.S. federal government and private landowners have repeatedly ended in court, most notably the 2023 litigation following the Sue specimen's record auction in 1997.
