Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II NIUE ISLAND IRB mw Ag 999 · 5 DOLLARS 2022 ·
Reverse description Highly detailed, colorized depiction of the funerary death mask of Pharaoh Tutankhamun rendered in vivid polychrome enamel against an antiqued silver field. The iconic golden mask is shown frontally, featuring the striped nemes headdress in gold and blue lapis tones, the false beard, and the vulture and cobra (uraeus) symbols at the forehead, all faithfully reproduced with rich color application. The face displays inlaid eyes with striking blue irises, and the broad collar pectoral beneath is decorated in multiple bands of gold, turquoise, carnelian, and faience colors. Surrounding the central motif is a broad border inscribed with a continuous band of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs rendered in relief against the darkened field. The overall presentation combines antiqued relief work with selective coloring to evoke the treasures of the tomb of Tutankhamun.
