| Description du revers | Central high-relief depiction of the Warder chess piece from the Lewis Chessmen, a celebrated collection of 12th-century Norse carved walrus ivory gaming pieces. The Warder, rendered as a squat bearded figure wearing a conical helmet and long cloak, is shown full-length, gripping a sword upright in both hands before him with a shield at his side. The sculptural surface faithfully replicates the textured, stylised carving characteristic of the original medieval artefact. The surrounding field is mirror-polished, contrasting with the frosted relief of the central figure, and the reverse carries no additional legend or inscription. |
