The Royal Yacht Britannia had already been earmarked for decommissioning by the time this piece was struck — the British government confirmed the decision in 1994, with the final decommission carried out in December 1997 after 44 years of service. The Solomon Islands, as a Commonwealth realm, was among several Pacific nations that issued commemorative silver in the mid-1990s marking the end of Britannia's active life.
