The Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002 prompted a flood of commemorative issues across Commonwealth territories, and Bermuda was among dozens of issuing authorities producing silver crowns to the same 28.28g/.925 specification — a format coordinated loosely across the Commonwealth to allow unified production runs and shared blanks. Bermuda's Monetary Authority, established in 1969 to replace the Bermuda pound with a dollar pegged to the USD, had by 2002 issued commemoratives with enough regularity that this piece entered a crowded secondary market almost immediately upon release.
